Louis Chachere is my great-great-great-great-great grandfather on my mother's side, and as such, his story has always fascinated me when it has been recounted by family members throughout my life. Chachere is my mother's maiden name, as well as my middle name, so after my lifelong fascination with the Louis Chachere odyssey, I felt that visualizing his story and learning about the origin of my name was an important undertaking.
Delving into his history, as well as the broader history of French immigration to America and Louisiana, has always been something that I have wanted explore since I first heard this story.
Below is a family tree that starts at Louis and Catherine Chachere and their son Lisle's line of descendents, ending with myself.
